We use only organically produced grains, flours and seeds. All ingredients in all of our products are free from artifical flavors and chemical preservatives. Consistent with this philosophy we are striving to evolve peacefully with our environment. We use organic products as a means of promoting health in individuals as well as health for the planet. We also use organic products recognizing that greater demand for more and better organically produced foods will allow costs to become reasonable over time.
Maple Nut Granola Ingredients:
Rolled Oats – Our oats are USDA certified organic, produced in Canada. Oats are high in fiber and an excellent source of thiamine, iron and phosphorus. Oats also contain antioxidants beneficial to the circulatory system.
Pure Maple Syrup – Maple syrup is a natural sweetener made from the sap of maple trees. After much experimentation with different sweeteners including honey, organic sugar and natural fruit sweeteners, we found the flavor and texture obtained from maple syrup to be far superior. Our syrup is producer certified to be 100% natural with nothing added or used in the processing. We buy ours from two family farms in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, and we enjoy dealing directly with the farmers who produce our syrup. Maple syrup contains significant levels of zinc, iron and calcium.
Pecans – A favorite in Southern cooking and unbeatable for taste in our granola. Our pecans are raised nearby in southern Georgia. We have found a distributor who is careful to always keep the nuts in cold storage to protect the volatile oils, critical for maintaining freshness in all nuts. Pecans are a good source of protein and vitamin E and are effective at lowering bad LDL cholesterol.
Almonds – Our almonds are produced in California and kept in cold storage. Almonds are a good source of protein, vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and calcium. Almonds are high in beneficial phytochemicals believed to protect against cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Coconut Oil – In addition to imparting a wonderful flavor to our granola, research now shows it to be a very healthy and stable oil. Coconut oil is composed primarily of medium chain fatty acids, with about 50% lauric acid, a rare fatty acid found in human breast milk. Regular consumption is believed to reduce the risk of heart disease and improve overall metabolism and immune system function. Coconut oil is outstanding for baking as it undergoes no dangerous chemical changes at moderate baking temperatures. In addition this oil is stable at room temperature, eliminating concerns about storage and shipping. Our high quality coconut oil is USDA certified organic, produced in the Philippines.
